Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes Issues
Diabetes Type 1 is also known as insulin dependent diabetes.  This form of diabetes can be detected at an early age. Although people past the mid 20’s may acquire this type of diabetes, it is most commonly diagnosed in teenagers and kids.

Cause
Type 1 Diabetes occurs in people who have small amounts of insulin in their bodies because the pancreas produces an insufficient amount of insulin to the blood and body tissues, hence the body suffers from the inability to regulate the blood sugar levels. Research is still being conducted to determine the specific cause of the problems but one key is that diabetes seems to  more prevalent in some families than in others.

Symptoms
The symptoms of Diabetes type 1 the following:

•    Unexplained weight loss
•    Excessive thirst
•    Increased urination
•    Blurry vision
•    Fatigue

Diagnosis
Type 1 Diabetes can be detected through blood samples. Examples of these blood tests include the Fasting Plasma Glucose test (FPG), Oral Glucose Tolerated Test (OGTT), Random Plasma glucose test and Hemoglobin A1C test.

Treatment
Insulin therapy is the main treatment for Diabetes Type 1. Patients must take insulin injections several times a day to allow their body to properly utilize the glucose in their bloodstream. They must also monitor their blood sugar levels to ensure the levels do not drop too low or soar too high. Both extremes can lead to dangerous health consequences including coma and death.

Diabetes Management
Because Type 1 Diabetes can have such serious risks, you need to carry two things on you at all times: a medical ID card to let medical health professionals know about your condition and glucose tablets that you can take if your blood sugar stops to drop too low. These precautions could one day save your life.
